Amid finals, papers, projects and stress galore, there is perhaps no better time to take a step back and reflect on what really matters — such as helping out your fellow Terps.
By now, everyone knows about Zach Lederer, the freshman who made headlines earlier this year for his fight against cancer. This Sunday, the first annual Zaching Against Cancer 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament will take place at the Armory starting at 10 a.m. The registration cost for each team is $21, with all proceeds going to cancer patients in the area through the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.
Players from the men’s basketball team will be in attendance to help run the tournament, and prizes will be give to first, second and third place teams.
Young Adult Cancer Support, Delta Epsilon Mu, Colleges Against Cancer and the Residence Hall Association are hosting the event. To sign up, email firstname.lastname@example.org with the names of the players on your team.
If actually participating in a sport isn’t your thing, you can always just score a date with an athlete.
Yes, you read that correctly, and yes, it is that easy. On May 1, the men’s rugby team will be holding its annual Date Auction at R.J. Bentley’s. Each player will be on stage for one minute while bidders eat their hearts out.
The event page boasts, “all different body types, hair colors, and nationalities,” and “a seemingly endless display of the perfect male form.”
All proceeds will help fund the team’s trip to Knoxville, Tenn., for the 2012 USA Rugby National Playoffs.
Drink specials will continue all night, with auctioning beginning at 9 p.m.
Whether it’s getting on the court yourself or snagging your own personal athlete, be sure to go out and support your fellow Terps.
